Quality of Life Panel Formed with Military Families Top of Mind
The House Armed Services Committee (HASC) has announced the formation of the Quality of Life (QoL) Panel which will focus on issues impacting the quality of life for service members and their families. The panel will hold hearings in Washington, D.C., and at installations over the next month or two. A report on their findings will follow in the fall of this year and the report’s proposals can be included in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025.
Members of the panel include:
Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE), Chairman | Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA), Ranking Member |
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) | Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) |
Rep. Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) | Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-WA) |
Rep. Jen Kiggans (R-VA) | Rep. Marilyn Strickland (D-WA) |
Rep. James Moylan (R-GU) | Rep. Don Davis (D-NC) |
Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO) | Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ), ex officio |
Rep. Jim Banks (R-IN), ex officio |
In April, Rep. Bacon previewed the activities of the panel at Offutt Air Force Base. He met with 45 junior enlisted airmen and junior officers and their spouses to hear their concerns about the cost and quality of housing, difficulty finding child care, challenges accessing health care services, and spouse employment.
The National Military Family Association supports the creation of the panel and is pleased that the panel will travel to installations around the country to hear directly from families. We look forward to working with the panel to address issues most important to military families. We will continue to provide updates on the panel and the issues they’re hearing from families.
