Contact Congress in Support of the Military Family Quality of Life Recommendations Today

Military families always answer our nation’s call, and it’s time for Congress to show that they fully understand their sacrifices.

The House Armed Services Committee’s Quality of Life panel recommendations are moving through the legislative process, but there is pushback about the price tag.

We need your help to get these recommendations included in the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Join us in calling upon Congress to say ‘thank you’ to our military families for their service by giving our families the support they need.

The Quality of Life provisions are included in the House version of the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act but have not yet been included in the Senate bill.

Call your Senator and tell them how important these provisions are to your military family.

Here’s an example script to help with the conversation:

You: Hi, my name is ___(your name)__. I’m a constituent from (place of residence). May I speak to the Legislative Assistant who handles military family issues.

[once connected, reintroduce yourself the same way]

You:  Hi, my name is ___(your name)__. I’m a constituent from (place of residence).

As a military [spouse/veteran/family member/supporter], I’m calling to let you know how critical the HASC Quality of Life Panel’s recommendations are to military families. I’m calling to ask that the Senator [name] support the recommendations for the families who sacrifice for our country each day.

Congressional Office: I will let the Congressman/woman know that we talked and make sure that he/she takes a look at those recommendations

You: Thank you for your time. I hope that Senator [name] will support this critical legislation. Can I get your email so that I can follow up with you on this issue?

A bonus step in support of our military families is to send a follow-up email.

Here are some quick tips to make the email easy to write.

Subject Line: Say Yes to Quality of Life Recommendations for Military Families

Letter Body:

• Identify yourself and that you’re a voter in their state.
• State that you’re writing to support the Quality of Life Recommendations put forth by the House Armed Services Quality of Life Committee.
• Describe the importance of the issue to you. Explain your relationship to military families, your own military family background, or why supporting military families is personally important to you.
• Clearly let them know what you want them to do: “I’m asking you to make sure the Quality of Life Recommendations put forward by the HASC Quality of Life Panel are included in the Senate version of the Fiscal Year 2025 NDAA”
• Thank them.
• Provide your address after your name so that your elected official knows you’re a constituent.

The Senate is weighing many competing issues as they work toward their version of the NDAA. Let’s make it clear that giving our military families what they need shouldn’t be up for debate.
