Congress has passed two major pieces of legislation impacting military families: the annual defense bill and a package that averts a shutdown and continues funding the government.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes important provisions to strengthen military families:

• A pay raise of 14.5% for junior enlisted members and 4.5% for everyone else
• Full funding for child care fee assistance programs
• More opportunities for military spouses seeking federal employment
• And expanded eligibility for the Basic Needs Allowance.

NMFA advocated for these solutions alongside the House Armed Services Committee Quality of Life Panel and partner organizations, and hundreds of thousands of military families will benefit.
